CBAM Fundamentals: what the introductory course covers

CBAM Fundamentals is the introductory course in the cbam-assured training programme. It is assessed to the IACBAM 3004:2025 standard and gives the people who deal with CBAM day to day a shared, working understanding of what the mechanism asks of the business.

This article used to describe a 90-minute course called CBAM Essentials. That course is no longer offered, and CBAM Fundamentals has taken its place.

What the course covers

The course covers whether and how CBAM applies to your goods, how to manage emissions data, the financial impact on the business, audit trails and record keeping, the EU CBAM Registry, and what the compliance officer is responsible for.

It covers the EU CBAM, which has applied in full since 1 January 2026, and the UK CBAM, which starts on 1 January 2027, so a business trading with both markets can prepare for each.

Who it is for

Compliance managers, procurement teams, HSQE leads, operations directors and supply chain professionals. It is the place to start for a team that is new to CBAM.

How it is delivered

The course takes 4 to 8 hours and runs as a half-day or full-day programme, at your premises, as a group session or online. Fees start from €500 per person. We have no open course dates at present, so contact us to arrange training for your team. The CBAM Fundamentals course page has the full details.

What you receive

The course ends with an IACBAM assessment. Participants who pass receive an official IACBAM certificate and recognition as an IACBAM Associate, listed on iacbam.org.

Where next

Teams that manage declarations can move on to Declarant Certification (IACBAM 3002:2025), which covers the EU CBAM. Those who build or check the emissions data behind the declarations can take the CBAM MRV Consultants course (IACBAM 3006:2026).

The CBAM training page lists all three courses and their fees, and the course finder recommends one in three questions.
